Sales Tax Consultant

Position Overview:

Acclarity is seeking an experienced Sales Tax professional to support our clients with complex sales and use tax needs while also contributing to business development opportunities. This role combines deep technical sales tax expertise with a strong focus on developing relationships, identifying opportunities, and generating new business.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience advising clients on complex multi-state sales and use tax matters, along with a demonstrated ability to build relationships and develop new client opportunities. This individual will be expected to contribute to both client delivery and business development, working closely with Acclarity's Sales and Market leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Tax Consulting & Client Delivery

• Lead and support client engagements involving multi-state sales and use tax compliance, remediation, and advisory needs.
• Conduct nexus studies and advise clients on sales tax collection and remittance requirements.
• Manage and advise on state registrations, remittances, back filings, and other sales tax compliance matters.
• Assess existing sales tax processes and identify opportunities to improve compliance, controls, technology, and reporting.
• Work with ecommerce platforms and tax automation solutions, including Shopify, Avalara, TaxJar, and similar technologies.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on complex sales and use tax matters.

Business Development & Client Relationships

• Proactively identify and develop new Sales Tax consulting opportunities through existing relationships, professional networks, referrals, and market activity.
• Build and maintain relationships with prospective clients and key decision-makers.
• Leverage an established professional network to introduce Acclarity to potential clients and generate new business opportunities.
• Lead or participate in prospect and discovery conversations to understand client needs and identify appropriate solutions.
• Partner with Acclarity Sales and Market leadership to develop opportunities, scope engagements, and support proposals.
• Identify opportunities to expand Sales Tax services within existing Acclarity client relationships.
• Maintain an active presence within relevant professional and industry networks to develop relationships and uncover potential opportunities.

Position Requirements

• 7+ years of progressive sales and use tax experience, including significant experience with complex multi-state tax matters.
• Strong technical knowledge of sales and use tax compliance, nexus, registrations, remediation, and related advisory services.
• Demonstrated success developing client relationships, generating new business, and expanding opportunities within existing accounts.
• Established professional network with the ability to develop prospective client relationships and create new business opportunities.
• Entrepreneurial and commercially minded, with an ability to recognize client needs and translate them into consulting opportunities.
• Ability to balance hands-on client delivery with business development responsibilities, including discovery, solution development, and engagement scoping.
• Strong executive presence and ability to communicate effectively with CFOs, Controllers, Tax leaders, and other senior client stakeholders.
• Experience with sales tax technology and automation platforms such as Avalara and TaxJar; Shopify or other ecommerce platform experience is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred; CPA or other relevant certification is a plus.
• Consulting or professional services experience strongly preferred.
